The Longest Hug

I have a guy friend here who I refer to as my Hong Kong big brother.  One day last week I was going to an open mic night with him and his wife and on the way there we ran into some guy he knew and the guy mistook me for Jacob's sister.  I'm such a weirdo, I was on some sort of weird sibling love cloud for the rest of the night.

Last weekend, a friend and I went on a hike on Lantau and the ending point was near the beach he lives on, so we stopped by and hung out for a bit, played beach games and went and had dinner.  People who know Jacob, know when he is drunk he always wants to hug goodbye, its kind of a running joke between me and Caitlin after nights out as to how weird the Jacob hug at the end of the night is.  Well, after this goodbye hug, I'm definitely winning.

Then, in typical big brother fashion, he body-slammed me on the beach, thanks bro.

The Worst Way to Get a Free Bottle of Vodka

I remember going to the New Year's Eve party.  I remember getting my first three drinks.  I remember eating a mini burger...that's it.

The next memory I have is me in bed, naked, crying as a guy was leaving.  I remember him saying something like, "If you want to hang out and have a good time, fine.  But I'm not dealing with this shit." This is very paraphrased, because it's a hazy memory.

I must have gone back to sleep, after that.  I woke up around 9am, alone.  There was change scattered on the floor, a couple of unused still wrapped condoms.  Fuck.  I made two goals for NYE, they were to not blackout and to not sleep with anyone.  Fuck and Fuck.

I had a message from my friend that I'd gone out with to come to lunch with her, so I decided escaping was the best thing to do.  I went and met up with her and spent most of the day with her.  She couldn't help me with any memories though because apparently we had lost each other around 1am.  I know I was up and around until 4:30am because I wear a pedometer that tracks when I am active and I was up and moving until that time.

When I got home, I did a bit of detective work (and cleaning up).  I found a used condom in my rubbish bin, but there was no cum in it (yeah, i picked it up and looked at it, that's not even in the top 10 grossest things i've done, don't judge me).  So, I think that I brought this guy home, we probably started fooling around and then I freaked out because I specifically did not want to have sex that night and then he left, fair enough.  But good on me for throwing a tantrum when I realized I was doing something I didn't want to, and throwing it in such an extreme and off-putting way, that I ended up getting my way.

Later, as I was gathering up all this spare change on the floor, that the guy probably left in his rush to get the hell out of my place, I saw a bag from circle K.  Inside was a full and sealed bottle of Absolut.  And there, my friends, is the silver lining.  Not only did I keep half of my goals for the evening, but the universe rewarded me by bestowing upon me a bottle of booze, happy 2014!!

I would like to break this bottle out for a special occasion, but am not quite sure what even warrants a bottle of booze left behind by a failed one night stand...suggestions?

Dear Neighbor

On weeknights I'm usually not home until around 9pm because I do a lot of private tutoring and some work out classes.  This is why I don't mind living in a small box of an apartment.  This is also why I wake up early to work out in the mornings, by early I mean 5:45 or 6am.

Well, I got home one night a few weeks ago and found a letter under my door.  I will transcribe it for you.

          Dear Neighbor,

I live in the apartment below yours.  I work in a restaurant that closes quite late every night, so my                 resting time is very limited.

Two nights ago at, around 6 o'clock in the morning, some noise was coming from your apartment;                 something like somebody is jumping repeatedly, for almost an hour.  I don't know what it is and it is               not my intention to find out.

I just want to kindly ask you to do it in a different time of the day, since I couldn't sleep anymore and I           only slept since three in the morning.  Also, it was not the first time.

         I would really appreciate it.

         Thank You Very Much.

         Best Regards,

         C.M, apartment 507

It sounds like i'm jumping around because I am jumping around, its called  high intensity interval training for a reason.  I don't know why he would imply that is some sort of weird sex thing i'm doing.  Like I set my alarm for 6 am, to have jump sex every morning...asshole.  I was going to buy him some cookies and some earplugs and go by his apartment to apologize...but, I let it go for too long, so instead I just bought a yoga mat and started working out in the evening and running (outside of my apartment) in the mornings.  I'm a little disappointed in myself for being so accommodating.

Through the Ages

We got out of school on Thursday, so my workmates and I planned on doing a mini bar crawl on Wednesday.  We managed to make it to three bars before we decided to fuck it and just go to Wan Chai.  Around midnight my co-workers started to dwindle until it was just me, and girl who used to work at our school and was just visiting for the week from Australia and a random girl from Germany who was travelling that we had just met earlier.  Australia decided she was going to work on this group of older dudes to get them to buy her drinks.  The oldest guy of the bunch, 60 ish started talking to me.  It was a pleasant chat, nothing weird, and I think I have a certain all-american-clean-cut-goodie-two-shoes granddaughter appeal about me.  Next thing I looked over and Australia had taken her shirt off and was just standing on the street in her bra and tights spinning around to show all these crusty guys her tattoos.  German and I were a little gobsmacked, but tried to shrug it off, to each their own.  Few minutes later, some of the other guys joined our convo and then directed out attention to Australia making out with one of the guys, which is more interesting when she had spend the earlier bits of the evening talking about her live-in boyfriend back in Australia.  The guy she was making out with broke free and came over to ashamedly mumble, "That girl is crazy."  That was the last I saw of Australia.   The convo with the old guy took an unfortunate, but ultimately foreseeable, turn when he began telling me he and his wife had a "very open marriage."  Apparently my granddaughter vibes were not strong enough, so we politely parted ways.

German and I went to another late hours bar because this was her first night out in HK, and I wanted to show her all the hot spots...and by that I mean Amazonia and Dusk Til Dawn, the first is half live music half prostitute bar and the second is just where all the late night scraps go to keep drinking and dancing.  I went outside with German because she is a smoker and then this kid comes up to me, and within the first two minutes asks how old I am.  I tell him I'm 30, and he says, "NO!  I would have thought 25...26 max," and because its that point of drunk where you just repeat everything he says this over and over.  The first time is flattering, or rather I know I should take it as flattery, but when it just keeps going on and on, I was about to lose it.  Then, he tells me to just lie to him about my age, I declined.  He is professing his love for me, when this creep comes over and takes a fancy to Germany, of course, I know the creep, so I try to encourage Germany to give him a chance, but she is not interested, and really, I can't blame her.

The positive side of me wants to congratulate myself for being hit on my guys with a 40 year span, leading me to believe I have mass appeal...but my logical side is not too impressed with this.

Bad Sport

In conclusion, we all lost.  I also haven't been back to this bar since, but I think if I went there I would still be allowed in.  Keeping hope alive.

Piss Bar

Yeah, ok, sometimes I frequent a pub called Piss Bar.  When Caitlin moved to Kowloon side she found this little gem a couple doors down from her apartment.  We started going here a lot.

Apparently we went there so much the girl who worked there knew how once we started we could never stop, so she gave us some economic advice.

Or life advice...I'm not sure

The Time I Met a Guy Named Mohammed

Of course this story starts with me being out with Caitlin and Emma, having a quiet-ish night in TST.  Emma had to leave first to catch a ferry back to Lamma, and Caitlin and I never know when to quit, so we took this as a sign to have a couple more bottles of wine.  Everyone at the bar had left except us and the table next to us.

Turns out it was some guys in town for a Geo-electrical engineering conference, once i'd exhausted the industry buzzwords I could think of, those being "cable" and "wire" we did the usual exchange of who are you and where are you from.  One of the guys was named Mohammed and he was from Iran, but had been living in Belgium for a while, working on his doctorate, his girlfriend was there too, she was an artist tagging along for holiday purposes, then some Spanish guy and a Belgium dude also here for the conference.  We told them we were from the States and Caitlin was getting ready to move back.  So he told us how is mom was always asking when he would come back to Iran, but he really didn't want to.  He enjoyed living in Belgium and what was he supposed to do back in Iran...do the nightly prayer and then shout "Down with America," one arm held high, with the rest of the Iranians....Caitlin and I were both speechless and then started laughing insanely. I double checked and asked him if that was true, and he confirmed.  Unbelievable!! This is one of the best stories I've ever heard

After this I got his business card we made lose plans to meet up the next day for Caitlin's going away party

The next day at work, Emma asked if we had stayed out late.  I relayed the story of our new friend, and said I didn't think we had stayed out much after she left...then I sat for a minute and had a memory, and had to amend that statement because I recalled the engineers leaving and Caitlin and I still sitting there with half a bottle of wine.  The bar staff gave us two plastic cups and poured the wine into them and sent us on our way so they could close up.  Most bars in Asia are just always open, so I can't be sure how long we were there, but I would like to extend my apologize to the bar staff, for being those two lame-os that don't know when to leave.
